How to Log In

Introduction

Logging in to CAREFUL gives you access to your organisation's patient coordination platform. You'll use your mobile number (with country code) and password to securely access your teams, patients, and clinical tasks.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • Your registered mobile phone number (in international format, e.g., +447700900808)
  • Your CAREFUL password
  • Access to either the CAREFUL web application or mobile app

If you haven't received your login credentials yet, contact your organisation administrator. If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it from the login page.

Steps
Accessing the Login Page
  1. Navigate to your CAREFUL instance:
    • Demo environment: https://app.demo.careful.online
    • Production environment: https://app.careful.online

The login page loads automatically. If you've been logged out due to inactivity, you'll be redirected here automatically.

Logging In
  1. In the Email / Mobile number field, enter your phone number in international format

    • Include the country code with a plus sign (e.g., +447700900808 for UK)
    • Do NOT use your local format (e.g., 07700900808 won't work)
    • Examples: +447700900808 (UK), +15143456789 (Canada/US)
  2. In the Password field, enter your password

    • The password is hidden as you type for security
  3. Click the Sign In button (or press Enter on your keyboard)

The system validates your credentials in the background using security checks. The Sign In button remains disabled until you've entered both your phone number and password.

Setting Your Duty Status (Returning Users)

If you're logging in again after your first session, you'll see a duty status prompt:

"Would you like to set yourself to on duty?"

  • Click Yes to set yourself to on-duty

    • You'll receive handover requests and notifications
    • Colleagues can see you're available
  • Click No to set yourself to off-duty

    • You won't receive handover requests
    • Colleagues know you're unavailable
    • Useful when logging in outside working hours to check information

On mobile, you'll also see a note explaining that on-duty status enables push notifications for urgent updates.

After Successful Login

You'll be redirected to your user profile dashboard at /users/your-id. From there, you can access:

  • Your patients (via My Patients in the sidebar)
  • Your teams (via Teams in the sidebar)
  • Your actions (via My Actions in the sidebar)
  • Handover requests (via Handovers in the sidebar)

If you were trying to access a specific page before logging in, you'll be taken directly to that page instead.

Troubleshooting
"Invalid email/phone or password" Error

This means your credentials don't match our records. Check that you:

  • Entered your phone number in international format with the country code (+44, not 0)
  • Typed your password correctly (it's case-sensitive)
  • Are using the correct CAREFUL instance (Demo vs Production)

If you continue to have problems, click Forgotten your password? to reset it.

"Network unstable. Recaptcha failed to load"

This security check couldn't load, usually due to a network issue:

  • On desktop: Click the refresh link or reload the page
  • On mobile: Close and restart the app
  • Check your internet connection
Session Timeout

If you've been inactive for 7 minutes (on desktop), you'll be automatically logged out and redirected to a timeout page. You can re-authenticate by entering your password again—you won't need to re-enter your phone number.

Tips
  • Browser autofill: CAREFUL supports password managers. If your browser offers to save your credentials, you can accept for faster future logins
  • Keyboard shortcuts: Press Enter in the phone number field to jump to the password field. Press Enter in the password field to submit the form
  • International format reminder: Always use +44 for UK numbers, not 0. For example: +447700900808, not 07700900808
  • Forgot your password? Click the Forgotten your password? link below the Sign In button to reset via email or SMS
