CAREFUL

How to Change Your Password

Introduction

The Change Password feature allows you to update your CAREFUL login password at any time. This is important for maintaining account security, especially if you suspect your password has been compromised or you want to follow good security practices by changing it regularly.

Before You Start

No special permissions required. Any user can change their own password. Administrators can also change passwords for other users in their organisation.

Steps
Accessing the Change Password Dialog
  1. Navigate to your User Profile page by clicking your name or profile link in the application
  2. In the top-right corner of the User Profile page, click the kebab menu (three dots ⋮)
  3. From the dropdown menu, click "Change password"
  4. The Change Password dialog box appears
Changing Your Password
  1. In the "Current password" field, enter your existing password
  2. In the "New password" field, enter your desired new password
  3. In the "Confirm Password" field, re-enter your new password exactly as you typed it in step 6
  4. As you complete the Confirm Password field, the system validates that both passwords match:
    • If they don't match, a red error message "Passwords must match" appears below the field
    • The Submit button remains disabled until the passwords match
  5. Once all three fields are filled and the passwords match, click "Submit"
  6. A loading indicator appears on the Submit button while your password is being changed
  7. If successful, the dialog closes automatically and you return to the User Profile page
  8. Your password has been updated -- you'll need to use the new password next time you log in
If There's an Error

If the password change fails (for example, if your current password was incorrect or the new password doesn't meet security requirements), the dialog remains open and error messages appear below the relevant fields. Correct the errors and click "Submit" again.

Cancelling the Change

At any point before clicking Submit, you can click the X button in the top-right corner of the dialog to cancel and close the dialog without making any changes.

Tips
  • Choose a strong password: While CAREFUL may allow various password formats, it's good practice to use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters
  • Password matching: The "Passwords must match" error only appears after you've finished typing in the Confirm Password field and moved away from it (on blur). This prevents distracting error messages while you're still typing
  • Verification: The Submit button is automatically disabled until both the New Password and Confirm Password fields have values, preventing accidental partial submissions
  • Immediate effect: Once your password is successfully changed, it takes effect immediately. You'll need to use the new password the next time you log in
  • No confirmation message: The dialog simply closes on success -- this is normal behaviour. The absence of error messages means your password was changed successfully
