CAREFUL

How to Revoke Team Owner Access

Introduction

Team Owners have elevated permissions to manage their teams, including adding members and managing team settings. As an Organisation Administrator, you can revoke these elevated privileges by demoting a Team Owner back to a standard team member. This action removes their team management permissions while keeping them as an active member of the team.

Before You Start
  • You must be an Organisation Administrator to demote Team Owners
  • The user you're demoting must currently have Team Owner status
  • You cannot demote yourself if you are the only admin viewing your own Team Owner role
Steps
  1. From the sidebar, click Teams to expand the teams accordion
  2. Click the name of the team containing the Team Owner you wish to demote
  3. Click the Members tab to view all team members
  4. Locate the user you want to demote by looking at the Team Role column — Team Owners are labeled as "Team Owner" whilst standard members show "Member"
  5. Click the kebab menu (⋮) icon in the Actions column on the Team Owner's row
  6. From the dropdown menu, click Demote to Team Member
  7. A confirmation dialogue appears asking "Are you sure you want to demote [First Name] [Last Name] to a team member?"
  8. Click Yes to confirm the demotion
  9. The dialogue closes automatically and the team member list refreshes
  10. The user's Team Role column now displays "Member" instead of "Team Owner"
What Happens After Demotion

Once demoted, the user:

  • Remains an active member of the team
  • Retains access to all team patients and clinical functions
  • Can no longer rename the team or manage team settings
  • Can no longer add or remove team members
  • Can no longer manage handover categories or update the team memo
  • Can still view patients, create actions, and participate in handovers

The demotion is recorded in the team's audit log as "User team role updated."

Tips
  • Multiple Owners: Teams can have multiple Team Owners. Demoting one does not affect the others
  • Silent Update: There is no success notification toast — the change is confirmed by the updated Team Role column
  • Reversal: You can promote the user back to Team Owner at any time by clicking Promote to Team Owner from their kebab menu
  • Last Owner: CAREFUL allows you to demote the last Team Owner, leaving a team with no owners. Whilst technically possible, it's recommended to maintain at least one Team Owner per team for management continuity
